The Power of Thanksgiving

Dear Friends,

1 Thess. 5:16-18  Rejoice always!  Pray without ceasing!  Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus! ESV

I have learned over the years that giving thanks unto the Lord is powerful and extremely helpful to staying positive and on top of the circumstances.  There was a bit of a mix -up a while ago where people thought giving thanks in all things meant  thanking God for whatever calamity came their way.  This is not what we are thanking God for. We do not thank Him for the work of the enemy.  We give God thanks because He is bigger and more powerful than our trial and we thank Him for who He is and for Him bringing us through the trial successfully and victoriously!  Thanksgiving keeps our emotions positive and focused on the Lord rather than empowering the enemy with negative thoughts and a defeated attitude.  I have come to develop an “attitude of gratitude” and I will share here what I believe that attitude looks like.

  1. Thanksgiving releases faith and trust.
As we thank the Lord, we are releasing our faith and trust in Him to guide us through the difficulty, trial or adversity.  We are communicating that we know God has our back and He will demonstrate His love and power in what we are facing.  Our thanksgiving comes out of experience for His help in the past, and even if you don’t have experience of His past help, start now.  Look in the word of God to see His protection, His guidance, His comfort, His grace, His love and power. Believe on these things and you will have no difficulty giving thanks.
  2. Thanksgiving brings you into divine alignment.
Any time we follow the word of God and act on it, we are in divine alignment.  We are in agreement with the word of God and His Kingdom.  Jesus Christ has already provided a way for us to conquer and come through any dark tunnel.  He defeated the enemy and has given us all authority to do the same.  Thanking God for Jesus Christ and our salvation is supreme!  As we align ourselves with the kingdom of heaven, God’s power will be released on our behalf through Christ!
  3. Thanksgiving releases joy!
I am a happier woman by focusing on who God is and what His word says, rather than focusing on the problem and allowing the enemy room to harass me.  God is good and He is not the author of evil.  John 10:10 says,” The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, I (Jesus) have came that they may have life and have it abundantly!”  Knowing that God is good is the prerequisite to giving thanks thereby experiencing His joy!  Nehemiah 8:10 …the joy of the Lord is your strength!”  Your thanksgiving will produce the joy of the lord which will produce His strength. His grace (divine enabling)  will give you the victory!

    Blessings,
    Diane
