A New Name for Failure

I was highly enthusiastic and zealous to spread the word of God throughout central Pennsylvania. If the fire of God starts here in the heart of PA, it will spread to all the corners of the state! The more I thought about it the more I was convinced God had a special assignment for me.  Surely God was showing me a path to reach the lost and the wounded.

My friends, Pastor and husband were all optimistic.  I prayed on it and felt God’s green light.  We handed out invitations to the townspeople where I would be conducting  meetings.  The American Legion seemed to be a neutral territory and a perfect place for a crowd .

Long story short, no crowd came.  There was no visible fruit, however, sometimes there is an internal fruit that is being grown while we experience what appears to be a lack of success.  Even though people did not come to the meetings, I could still sense God’s presence while passing out invitations and praying for people.

My attention was arrested on this particular endeavor the other day.  I then began to ponder other failed assignments.  The Lord broke into my thoughts and spoke, “what if these failures were experiments?”  My face brightened. I quickly looked up the word “experiment.” It means: any action or process undertaken to discover something not yet known. Any action or process designed to find out whether something is effective, workable, valid, etc.  Taken from Webster’s New World College Dictionary.

I have since discovered a number of reasons why this plan did not bear fruit.  I can honestly say I appreciate having tried such a project because the learning from it has been invaluable.   Let me share this about Thomas Edison.  “When a reporter asked, “How did it feel to fail 1,000 times? Edison replied, I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.”

I believe God wants to encourage you and I.  He does not see us failing.  God sees His people with great potential to fulfill their plan and purpose.  We will all have opportunities to experiment and learn from the outcome.  Let’s take any failure and allow God to show us all the benefits of that experiment!

Jeremiah 29:11 ” For I know the plans I have for you, ” declares the Lord “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. “

2018 Word

I grew up riding and owning an Appaloosa horse named Apache.  He was the love of my life for a number of years before I noticed boys.  As the Lord began to unfold a word for this year having to do with horses, my ears perked up. If there are horses in heaven I expect to have one.  Oftentimes my images of Jesus are us riding horse together.   I have dreams involving horses so I know their symbolism.

Psalm 147:15 He sends forth His command to the earth: His word runs very swiftly.
David ran to Goliath in battle.  He was ready to slay his opponent and wasted no time in accomplishing this feat.  Many of us and have been in the trenches for a long while, but this year we will see swift results.  The Lord has prepared us for battle and we need not dismay at the size of the giant. Goliath was head and shoulders taller than David, but the Lord anointed David with courage. David takes off running to the battle line and fires his slingshot and pow! A giant collapses! We will be swift to the battle line and see a swift defeat, by the power of God’s word!

Isaiah 40:31 Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.

Strength is another attribute for horses. Some horses have the capacity to pull a few tons. In fact in 1924, a pair of Shire draft horses pulled 50 tons! Now that is phenomenal considering they only weigh 1,800 pounds. The Lord says here that as we wait upon Him we will gain “new strength.” Waiting upon the Lord does not mean being idle. it means to sit in His presence with His word and allow Him to refresh, renew and strengthen us.  He has plans to reveal, wisdom to bestow and strategies to release. As we wait, we will have the renewed strength to go forward with His plan and conquer territory!

Luke 10:19 Behold I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure you.

God has given us authority over the enemy.  This is a year where knowing our authority will give us the swift result we need to advance the kingdom.  Authority does not need to be displayed with a bullhorn.  We don’t need to shout down our enemies, although that certainly feels good.  The Police Officer simply holds up his hand to stop cars and trucks of all sizes.  We have a uniform too and it’s called, “Jesus Christ.” He has given us the armor of God to conquer and occupy. This year will be an increasing of authority as we recognize our identity as sons and daughters of God.  Knowing who we are in Christ raises our awareness of our authority.

Luke 9:1 And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons, and to heal diseases.

This is a year where the power of God will break forth like the rising sun! I believe with all my heart that our broken world needs the power of God to save, heal and deliver.  Jesus gave His disciples power as He sent them out to “destroy the works of the enemy.” I have traveled to many other countries sharing the word and ministering in the power of the Holy Spirit. Many people in other nations have no hope except for the power of God to heal and deliver them.  Many in our nation are also in precarious places.  The Bible tells us that God is “watching over His word to perform it.” God is increasing His power upon those who have been faithful, for the Kingdom is advancing swiftly.

A final note about horses is they love their barn. If you fall off your horse, he will run home to his barn. Barn is symbolic of increase, storehouse of riches and harvest.  I liken the barn to our place of refuge and communion time with the Lord for strength renewal. We cannot do mighty exploits without barn time. God is calling His people unto Himself for renewed strength, authority and power for the time is at hand to go swiftly!

Imagine If…

Imagine if every time your kid communicated to you, it would be to ask for something. In prayer language this is called “petition prayer.” We all pray this way and hopefully it is not all the time. If my children only spoke to me when they wanted me to do something, we would have a very strained relationship. Hence so it is with the Lord. He is desiring a relationship with us and that relationship means more than what He can do. Looking at the world’s needs, as my mother would say, “we can pray all day.” Those issues that bother your heart are meant to be interceded for. Prayer precedes the activity of heaven. But petition prayer is not all there is to a sound relationship with our heavenly Father. In fact He likes to talk and reveal His heart to us. His one book contains 66 books and Jesus is called the “Word” in  the beginning of John. God has something to say.

Prayers of adoration, worship and praise without requests is a glorious way to pray! This is an invitation for God’s presence to show up and we get to taste a bit of heaven. There is rest and refreshing in this place. Peace will come and remove all distress and worry. It is a place to listen with open ears to His voice. What is on God’s mind and heart? What does He want to share? What mystery of heaven or kingdom keys does He want to speak? What scripture is He highlighting? His words come with transforming power and grace to fulfill.

God is love and He wants to love on us. If we never take the time to let Him love on us, we will miss a valuable experience.  In worship and adoration the love of God comes. His love is the perfect satisfaction of our heart. We were made to love Him first and others with the love He has given us. God’s love is not tied to performance, nor is it conditional. His love sees potential and all our hidden treasures. Let me say this as a prophetic word, you have hidden treasure and the Lord wants to help bring that treasure out of hiding. Communion prayer is about communing with the Holy Spirit. This strengthens your love connection and your personal relationship with the Creator of the universe!

Psalm 34:1-3 I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul will make its boast in the Lord; the humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.

Posture

I noticed that as I get older, my posture wants to get lazy. Strengthening my core is a term I never thought of in my younger years. It is essential to exercise my core since everything else is held up by it. Let me relate this term to our Christian journey and what I see happening right now.

The definition of posture we are all familiar with is this one: The position or carriage of the body in standing or sitting. Here is another definition: an attitude or frame of mind. This is important as believers’ because our nation is shaking and we can feel the effects. If we are not careful we will get sucked into the anger, division and chaos the enemy is causing. We do “not fight against flesh and blood.” (Eph. 6:12) The Kingdom of God lives within us and is accessible anytime and anywhere. Our peace and joy are not dependent on circumstances or everything going perfect. Which is really good news, because negativity is at an all time high. Let’s be watching that our posture, our frame of mind stays free from the negativity of the world.

I recently heard a prophecy given by Doug Addison that talked about Christians complaining and grumbling. Philippians 2:14-15 says: do all things without grumbling and disputing; that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life,

We cannot afford to grumble and complain because that is the language of darkness. Our words carry weight and they release activity. As Christians we have the greatest opportunity to release the kingdom of God into all the brokenness and devastation and discord. Our posture should reflect the love of Christ and hope for our nation. Love heals, unifies and restores. It is said that revival shows up in the darkest of times so let’s call on  the Lord to send an outpouring of His love, mercy and salvation!

Gain New Strength

Isaiah 40:28-31 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.

Waiting for the Lord is an activity no one enjoys. We are a people trying to be productive and chasing God for all He has for us. What is the next assignment to be excited about, God? I am this person and maybe you are too. Last week I blogged about rising up and this week I’m sharing on waiting on the Lord for new strength. So which is it? Can it be both?

Proverbs 4:23 Watch over your heart with all diligence for from it flow the springs of life. You are the one who determines your level of activity in your life. You set your schedule. It is not hard to become weary in well doing and allow fatigue to set in and oppress or depress. Weariness affects your heart. In fact with all the negative media and publicity we can become emotionally tired without doing anything. Be watchful over your life and tune in to what your body is saying and take care of it. Living long and strong in the strength of the Lord is possible for all of us as believers.

Waiting on the lord, resting in Him is highly productive. The scripture above states that this waiting will give us new strength. I am in a season of waiting upon the Lord, of resting in His presence. The focus is not my ministry or what assignment I can dive in to. It is about focusing on who God is and listening to His heartbeat. Worship, word study, listening and communing with Him is what this looks like. Spiritual assignment responsibilities do not disappear, however the Lord will show you how to adjust your time to rest and renew your strength. Remove distractions and things that take time away from Him. God is preparing you for the new strength needed for your upcoming adventures!

We will rise up on eagles wings with new strength in Him because we have rested in His presence. God prepares our hearts and minds in the waiting and removes any shackles or hindering spirits. I believe God desires for us to have time only for Him to experience His love. As a result of this we have His love to share with our lost and hurting world. Dear Lord, thank you for renewing our heart and soul through Your rest and strengthening us to rise up and soar as eagles! In Jesus name, A-men.

Stethoscope Anyone?

We all know this drill. The doctor says, “take a deep breath” as he moves the stethoscope around listening to our heartbeat. It is quiet except for the the sound of breathing. Recently the Lord was revealing to me His desire to hand out stethoscopes. I waited for further explanation as I was thinking, “this can’t be the Lord.” The times when you think this can’t be God, oftentimes are. I was alert and waiting. The Holy Spirit began to speak to my heart about our spiritual climate. Our country is in chaos and wrong seems right and right seems wrong. Everywhere you look negative news is trying to oppress believers in Christ and the new leader of our country. It is time for the body of Christ to “arise and shine,” declaring the heart and word of our Creator releasing healing for our land!

Why is the Lord making reference to stethoscopes? He desires for his people to get quiet and listen to His heartbeat. Our prayers should be more than petitioning prayers. As we quiet ourselves, shutting down the noise in our lives, we give God room to speak. What is on His heart? What are the prayers and declarations He wants released into our nation? How we will ever know, if we are the ones doing all the talking? God knows all, “He created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. ” I believe God wants His message of salvation, healing and freedom spoken over North America and all the earth. Making the time for the secret place, listening to His heart, will empower us to share His good news. We will have the word of the Lord to boldly declare as a weapon.

God is ready to release His grace on those who are taking the time to listen and hear His heart for our nation. He knows what we should be proclaiming and decreeing for our land to become unified. We won’t all believe the same thing, but we can be respectful to all people. If we take time to commune with our Lord, and take time to hear his heart, we will know what to pray and when. We can avert attacks , speak to the weather and change the spiritual climate. Our prayers activate the power of God as we pray in agreement with His word and heart releasing the Kingdom of heaven on earth! Stethoscope anyone? Blessings.

Love and Function

Dear Reader,

It is interesting to note the correlations between our earthly family and our heavenly family. Mothers and fathers represent the heart of God. He is both male and female not just male. In a healthy family children can grow up knowing and understanding the love of our heavenly Father by the experience of their earthly parents. All is not lost however, if the earthly family has a single parent or children are in foster care or orphanages, etc. Our God is redemptive and He restores all people unto Himself and heals their hearts once they choose Christ for their life. There is a point I want to make about family, function and love.

My husband and I have raised four children who are now grown and living away from home. Our children were all loved the same. Our kids participated in various sports, scouts, music and youth group activities. We drove them all around town to give them opportunities to grow, expand and find their passions. We took vacations and even lived in Italy for three years with the military. We invested in our family because of love. However, our love never changed in response to their functions or awards.

My daughter was in third grade and had to memorize an entire page for a speech because she was Abe Lincoln in a school show. She forgot her lines while standing in front of the crowd. She looked out at the crowd and said, “I forgot my lines” and everyone laughed. But then she remembered and said her entire message through. My son was playing tee ball at four years old and we watched him swing and miss a tee ball many times. We watched a volleyball game our son had to sit out because he had a bad grade on a test and the team lost a championship game because of it. We watched our daughter crash on a high school track while receiving a baton exchange. On the other hand our kids received numerous awards, trophies and acclamation for their performances whether in sports, academics or music.

None of the above effected our love for our kids. Relationship is not about performance. How are kids performed in any given function did not diminish or deepen our love for them. Love that is conditional is love based on conditions or performance. God’s love is agape love which means it is not conditional. He loves you beyond your performance whether good or bad. He loves you beyond your mistakes and bad decisions. God is a good Father and His desire is for you to experience His love and enjoy the new life that only Jesus can provide.

John 15:9 “Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.”

Overcoming Disappointment

Dear Reader,

Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

We can become disappointed in people, including family, ourselves and God. Disappointment can lead us into discouragement which can even take us into depression. I’m sure we have all been disappointed at one time or another in our loved ones not meeting our expectations. I recall early in my marriage my husband not living up the expectations I had for him. He did not want my list of what I expected him to repair and fix at the end of his work day. Of course my father did this for my mother so I thought every man did so. There are bosses, pastors, teachers, the government, any number of people to be disappointed with. The source of your peace and joy is not people, it is Jesus.

In our society of performance equals success, we must be careful not to condemn ourselves for falling short. Falling short means we are comparing ourselves to others in which case we will never measure up. We look at spotlight people and forget the journey that they went through. Also be mindful that God has process for all of us. I thought the day I was credentialed in ministry that I would receive phone calls from all over the world inviting me to speak. God had a different plan. For I was simply not ready.

People get disappointed in God for not answering their prayers. Maybe the timing was wrong or maybe it was not His will. I have found in counseling sessions that people wonder why God “permitted” their suffering. God is not permitting suffering. He is not the author of evil. John 10:10 says “the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life; and have it abundantly.” We live in a fallen world and we have free will. God is not stepping into situations without invitation and He is also not moved by need. He is moved by faith. Jesus’ ministry was full of healing, deliverance and even raising the dead. Jesus came to “destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8

How do we overcome disappointment? By repenting and allowing the Lord to renew our hope and even listen for His perspective on the situation. This is a season where your hope deferred will become a desire fulfilled as you surrender it to the Lord and receive a new perspective on it, or simply let it go!

Election Overload

Dear Friend,

When will it all stop? When is all this noise going to calm down and when will people start behaving appropriately? I don’t know. I find myself becoming agitated at the false news reports, all the criticizing and condemnation. I have been wondering and pondering how I personally can make a difference in all this turmoil. Let me share what I sense the Lord is saying:

#1. Pray. 1 Thess. 5:17 says “Pray without ceasing.” This is a good season to practice this verse, although many of us have already been doing such for the past number of months leading up to the election. Pray for the plans and purposes of God for our nation to come into fruition. Pray for the USA to unite, reconcile and heal. 2 Chronicles 7:14 “and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. ”

#2. Treat others with respect and kindness. Luke 6:31 says, “Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.” If each of us follows this principle then we will be contributing to our nation being healed. To be kind to others and respectful is not dependent on whether we are in agreement with each other’s philosophy. It is dependent on the love of God in our own heart and thereby flowing through us into others.

#3. Carry peace. Matthew 5:9 says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” As kingdom carriers, we carry peace. It is a fruit of the Spirit. We can release the peace of God into our environment and still the storm. Jesus spoke to the storm and said, “Peace, be still!” Let’s speak peace, carry it and release it. The world needs it.

Blessings,
Diane

“Can These Dry ones Live?”

Dear Reader,

I was having my prayer time with the Lord and suddenly had a thought. I thought I might preach a sermon right here and now in my living room. I have experience with preaching to no one, so I thought maybe there is something the Lord wants me to know, and I will find this out as I preach to my empty room. My father made me a podium, so I wheeled that round and about positioning it so I could speak out my window, maybe the birds would be listening. Then I heard to open to the familiar passage in Ezekiel, chapter 37 about the dry bones. Ez. 37:1 The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. Ez. 37:3-5  And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” So I answered, O Lord God, You know.” Again he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! Thus says the Lord God to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you and you shall live!”Ez. 37:7 So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly rattling; and the bones came together, bone to bone.

As I continued to preach on the dry bones coming back to life I realized this is a picture of revival. I also felt impressed that the Lord wants all of His people to begin to prophesy His life into the dry bones we see all around us! The climate in America can change as we speak the Zoe life of God into all the areas of darkness that are permeating our society. We don’t have to be a part of the angry crowd or the crowd that has lost hope. You and I have the greatest hope of all! Eternal life in Christ Jesus!  Many people have yet to experience the miraculous love of God and therefore you and I are needed in the harvest to prophesy the goodness of God and demonstrate His love.  Let’s be mindful of the power that God’s words carry and let’s be diligent about declaring His words over our nation, our families, our churches, our media, our schools, and our government! Pray and prophesy!

Blessings
