“The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. But when the shoots had sprung up and produced fruit, the weeds also appeared.
So the servants of the landowner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? Then where did the weeds come from? “He said to them, ‘An enemy did this.‘
The servants said to him, ‘Will you then have us go and gather them up?’
But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the weeds, you pull up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers: Gather up the the weeds first and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”
This parable is a good illustration of what is taking place in our nation and world. The weeds of the enemy are multiplying and appearing to overtake God’s land by choking out the seedlings. I understand how weeds make you take notice. I have weeded many a vegetable garden in my younger years, and flower gardens in my older years. It was not always easy to see the difference, and the same is true today. It takes spiritual eyesight to discern between the weeds in the world and the healthy plants.
Discernment, the ability to know the difference between God, flesh, and our enemy, will help us in this season. God speaks truth and the enemy speaks lies and deception. There are many false narratives out there competing for attention wanting our agreement. What are we believing, and can we tell the difference between the weeds and God’s crops? Lets look at a few ways to discern the difference between God’s truth and the world’s narrative.
- Does it agree with the word of God?
- Does it bear witness in your spirit?
- Will it produce good fruit?
- Is it wisdom?
- Have you prayed and asked God about it, if you don’t know?
- Have you discussed with trusted godly mentors?
The more time we spend with the Lord, the more we will recognize His voice. The closer we are with Him, the more we know His ways. The weeds in our country will continue to grow, but as we keep our focus on the Lord and follow His way, we will align our hearts with heaven, bringing heaven to earth. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Gal. 6:9 Niv.
